How to find your personal style.
Your personal style is the very basis of
who you are. Style is your hello to the world. Like it or not, people
judge you on your appearance. Developing your personal style can take
awhile, a lot of the time it can be very tricky finding a look that screams
you. It’s easy to lose prospective on your signature style when trying to
follow the hottest trends.
Here are a few ways in which you can get
back on track and evolve your style.
Rule 1: Comfort
The most important thing is to be
comfortable.
Instead of going from trend to trend,
because they look good. Pick
out clothes that make you feel good. Think about the clothes that you feel
really comfortable in. For example, think back to outfits you felt amazing in,
whether it was that trouser-blazer combo, or that cute little pink dress. Look
at your wardrobe and think of the pieces that you feel the most powerful in. As
obvious as this sounds, Get RID OF or STOP buying the styles you don’t feel
good in.
You don’t want to wear something because
other people think it’s nice. You want to wear it because you feel confident
and sexy. Forget what your boyfriend thinks, Forget what your friends think,
Just be you! Don’t care what other people are thinking.
Rule 2: Back to Basics.
Buy some basics. The very essence of a good wardrobe is
built on basic pieces. Basic pieces will give you the foundation of an amazing
outfit. Just remember to buy basic clothes that fit you nicely. You will find
it easy to match your basic pieces with some standout pieces.
Basics are just part of the fashion
equation.
1 Basic (dark jeans, basic top, pencil skirt) + 1 Interest piece (color, pattern, texture, shine) + 1 completer piece (jacket, cardigan, belt) + Accessories (bag, shoes, jewelry) = the perfect outfit.
Rule 3. Statement Pieces
Now that you have your basics, think about the types of styles you
are drawn to. What’s the one thing about yourself that you can add to jazz
things up? Are you more into grudge? If so, add a standalone piece such as a
leather jacket. Are you more of a romantic? If this is the case, add more
floral pieces and soft accessories.
These key pieces are good to invest in.
you’re going to want to invest in a nice leather jacket or a trench coat.
They will last you forever and they are classic.
Rule 4: The Fit.
Find clothes that flatter you. Some
clothes and trends tend to look better on certain people. Just find the right
cut that makes you feel sexy. Keep in mind, height
and proportions can make or break a look. Always play around with different
silhouettes and ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS, try everything on before purchase!
Rule 5: Inspiration
Whenever building your personal style,
it’s okay to find inspiration from other people. You can take bits and bobs of
someone else’s style and incorporate it in your own. Don’t copy everything;
still continue to be true to you! When walking down the street, check out
peoples outfits or whenever shopping, take notes on pieces you really like. It’s much easier to build a
wardrobe when you have a fashion inspiration in mind.
Rule 6. Stay true to you.
Never get swept away in the chaos of
trends. The majority of people don’t just have one type of style. For example,
you might be tough-meets-glamour, or classic-meets-feminine. Trust your instinct. You
already have a killer sense of style, so embrace it. Don’t fight it.
The biggest fashion icons are successful because
they stayed true to their person styles. They know who they are and they are
not afraid what other people think.
Your confidence is the best thing you can
wear.
Happy Styling!
